The Season’s Change Is Upon Us

“Aprils have never meant much to me, autumns seem that season of beginning, spring.”

-Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Although Holly Golightly tops my list of overrated characters, it is through her story that Capote brings us this perfectly distilled description of autumn. Long my favorite season, I relish the days as the sun rises later each morning to burn off the chill and the shorter evenings bring with them the smell of wood smoke. Before we get caught up in the whirlwind of the holidays, and the eventual winter gloom, we first get the fleeting respite that is September.

Several times in past months, friends and I joked that summer exists so that we can continuously echo laments that we are too busy. Luckily, a lot of the activities keeping us so busy were river floats, weekend trips, and barbecues. Despite the enjoyable activities, it seems that there are several friends I have not spent time with since Memorial Day. Fortunately, the upcoming month is slowing down and there are several great community events at which we can reconvene!

On Tuesday, September 2nd, OARS rafting is hosting a fundraiser for the Redside Foundation. The event takes place at the OARS boathouse and begins at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $25 and include food from Odd Fellows’ Bakery, two drinks, music, and an engraved Yeti Rambler. All proceeds go to the Redside Foundation.

On Friday, September 13, the Salmon Valley Stewardship will host the annual Harvest Celebration. It begins at 6:00 PM at Sweetwater Hollow. There will be live music, food from local restaurants, and beer and wine. Tickets are $35 and include unlimited music, drinks, and food. These events will be the perfect opportunity to catch up after a hectic summer and ease into the leisure of September. I hope to see you there!
